Many who climb Kilimanjaro with us choose to fly with us also, and we book the flights. We also have the option for you to join us in Tanzania. Below is how we organise our Kilimanjaro flight bookings – and the arrangements if you join us in-country on a ‘land only’ package.
Many who climb Kilimanjaro with us choose to fly with us also, and we book the flights. We also have the option for you to join us in Tanzania. Below is how we organise our Kilimanjaro flight bookings – and the arrangements if you join us in-country on a ‘land only’ package.
We use a number of different airlines to fly into Tanzania. We use Kilimanjaro International Airport, and only a small number of airlines fly there. There is no direct flight from the UK, so depending on the airline the routing will stop over somewhere.
We make group reservations in advance so if you choose the ‘flights included’ package then you will be assigned a ticket on one of our group bookings. The airlines we currently use are:
All flights depart from London Heathrow – and we will confirm your airline, flight times, group meeting time etc. 6 months prior to your departure.
Our group bookings depart from London Heathrow. These are usually in the evening for an overnioght flight that includes a stopover en route. Depending on the airline and routing the total journey to Kilimanjaro International Airport can take 10-12 hours. From here it is a 40 minute journey to our hotels in the Moshi area, which is situated in the foothills of Kilimanjaro.
If you are looking to make a journey starting from elsewhere in the UK, please speak to our team first to ensure you will arrive at the airport in time to make your flight out to Tanzania.
You can always upgrade your flight with us if you wish – if you make a ‘flights included’ booking and contact us – we can put a request in with the airline to upgrade your ticket. Once we’ve had the prices back from the airline we can then confirm your reservation.
Why not extend your stay in Tanzania! Take in a safari or visit the golden beaches of Zanzibar. You can do so by letting us know in advance, and we will put a request in with the airline for your preferred return date. The sooner the better – so we advise making your beach or safari plans in advance! There will be an admin fee for changing your return date, and there may be an airline fee if the day you are looking to return on is busy.
Our package price includes the cost of your group flight ticket. However, due to ever changing oil prices, we don’t include the fuel surcharge element on our standard group challenges or local climbs.

If you would prefer to book your own flight to Kilimanjaro, and meet the team in Tanzania, you can do that! We will reduce the package price accordingly (see our Price List for full details).
The airport closest to Kilimanjaro, and our base of operations in Tanzania, is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). While there are no direct flights from the UK, many airlines fly here via other hubs. We recommend booking your flight to this airport.
You can also fly directly to Tanzania, into Dar es Salaam Airport (DAR). While this aiport is in the same country as Tanzania, it is a long drive away – over 12 hours! If you fly to Dar es Salaam, we recommend booking an internal flight to Kilimanjaro International.
In neighbouring Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi (NBO) has good service from many airlines. You can transfer by land to Tanzania from here, but bear in mind that it is a long drive, and you will need to get a Kenyan transit visa on arrival. Again, if flying to Nairobi, we recommend booking the short flight to Tanzania, which will also give you views of Mount Kilimanjaro if you sit on the right-hand side!
If you arrive at the same time as our booked group flight, you can join the transfer from the airport at no extra cost. For anyone ariving before or after the team, you can either take a taxi from the airport to the team hotel, or contact us to arrange a private transfer.
If you are arriving on a different flight to the team but at around the same time, we will let you know where to meet our crew when you land.
Otherwise, you can meet the team at the hotel when you land.
