Mt Kilimanjaro Climb

   Welcome in 2021...

  .. from the Summit

2019 Divider 699

2020 hasn't been a great year for Kilimanjaro, with all of our trips cancelled since March. We’ve missed it, and as one of the leading Kilimanjaro operators we are determined to get back out on this magnificent mountain. That's why we're going to celebrate the dawn of a new positive era by organising a special trip over the festive period, timed to welcome in the New Year from its 5,895 metre summit. This has become possible as we are now happy that the right type of Travel Insurance is available - so we're going to try out our 'Covid-Secure' format - and hopefully open up the calendar for getting back to more Kilimanjaro trips in early 2021.

At this stage we're looking for people to ‘register their interest’ if they genuinely think they may be up  for it - as we need to understand the level of demand. Of course we're aware that before anyone finally signs, they'll need to digest the details.

We're very keen to go ahead with this trip on the fantastic Lemosho Route, and there's 2 extra hotel days included to make sure it's all nice & relaxed, with an optional one day safari available. As the first UK Kilimanjaro summit of 2021 it really will be a New Year’s Day to remember, and we'll celebrate once we're down! So - let us know if you're keen to join us!

Need to know...

Testing & quarantine

  • You’ll need to have a negative Covid PCR test within 72 hours of departure.

  • You would need to comply with whatever UK quarantining / or testing is required on return (hopefully by the end of January this will have reduced from the current 14 days - and an announcement is expected soon).

Travel insurance

  • You would need to take out a ‘special’ insurance policy we’ve sourced (circa £100 - depending on age / medical history).

  • The insurance covers travel + trekking to Tanzania (even if travel it's against FCDO advice)

  • Insurance covers medical costs if Covid is caught whilst away.

  • The insurance would not cover ‘isolation‘ costs (eg staying in a hotel) if Covid was caught whilst overseas.

  • The insurance is only available for those aged less than 60 years old.

  • Those aged 60 & over can still take part, but will need to source their own travel insurance, ensuring that it covers:
    - Trekking up to 6,000m
    - Hospitalisation overseas if you contract Covid-19

  • Insurance policies are unlikley to cover the cost of food, accommodation or repatriation if you need to isolate for 14 days while in Tanzania, so please ensure you will be able to cover these costs in the event you test positive while in Tanzania.

Payment & fundraising

  • If you are successful in your application, due to the proximity of the departure date, we will require payment in full for your place.

  • Due to the timelines of this event, we are unable to offer charity sponsorship or mixed-funding as payment methods for this climb. You are, however, most welcome to fundraise for a charity of your choice independently.

  • The per person prices are:

    Flights included: £3,095
    Land Only: £2,390

  • This is £200 less than our standard New Year climb (normally £3,295)

  • PLUS we have waived the Fuel Surcharges for this group!

  • If you need to cancel, due to receiving a positive Covid-19 test result, you can change to a 2021 or 2022 departure free of charge.

  • If you are unable to take part for any other reason,  you will need to ensure you have adequate travel insurance in place.

Why are we running this trip?

We're not in a position to run our Kilimanjaro trips as 'normal' currently. We are however planning to run this New Year's Day trip as we're happy that the right form of travel insurance can now be obtained, which covers travel & high altitude trekking to countries that are on the 'not recommended list' of the FCDO, and also covers medical costs if a participant was unfortunate to catch Covid whilst on the trip and required extensive treatment whilst in Tanzania - which at its worst could be expensive.

We are currently looking at running other Kilimanjaro trips on a similar basis during other months in early 2021, and our customers who are booked on our 'existing' Kilimanjaro departures will have the option to transfer to these 'special trip' dates on a similar basis to what has been set out here - plus of course adjusted as Covid measures unfold in the UK & wordwide.
