Documentation
PassportIt’s an obvious thing to say – but you need a valid passport. Your passport also needs to have 6 months validity on return into the UK. For example, if your return date into the UK from Tanzania is 1st October 2011, your passport should be valid until at least 1st April 2012.
Personal Details
When signing up to a challenge you will be asked to give us your name AS PER PASSPORT. We cannot stress how important this is. If your first name is Christopher on your passport, you must write Christopher in the given names field, even if everyone knows you as Chris. The principle is the same for your surname. If any of your passport details change after you have signed up, it is important that you notify us of these changes immediately to avoid any problems when it comes to issuing you with your flight ticket.
VisasUK, Irish and US nationals are required to have a visa to enter into Tanzania. If you are of different national heritage, please check the Tanzania High Commission's (THC) website for visa requirements. It is important that you obtain your visa prior to travelling. Before applying, you must ensure that you have at least 2 free pages in your passport and that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after you return to the UK. Your visa will be valid for up to 30 days upon entering Tanzania, which will cover you for the duration of the challenge and any post-challenge extensions within this 30 day period.
Visas can be obtained from the Tanzanian High Commission in person and will take 3 days to process, unless you are paying for the 1 day express service. Alternatively you can apply by post and this takes around 10 days to process.
Apply in personYou will need to download a visa application form from the THC website and take this completed, along with your passport (with 2 free pages and 6 months remaining validity on return back to UK), 2 passport sized photographs and a payment of £38 in cash to the Tanzania High Commission in London. You will need to leave the visa to be processed and then be available to collect your passport and visa when ready for issue.
Apply by post
You will need to download a visa application form from the THC website and post this, along with your passport (with at least 6 months validity from the day you are due to enter Tanzania and two free pages), 2 passport sized photographs and a payment of £38 from the UK – by postal order or directly into the THC bank account). You will also need to send a special delivery pre-paid self addressed envelope for the return of your passport. Please refer to the THC website for full details. Your visa will take around 10-14 days to be issued and so please ensure that if applying by post that you do so well ahead of your challenge departure.
